My 10 Favorite Kitchen Islands

One of my favorite details in a home! Always a popular gathering space, the kitchen island plays a vital role for many families, especially when it comes to entertaining. From stools to countertops to lighting above, the possible combinations are endless. Here are some of my favorite kitchen islands that I have come across throughout my career that have plenty of decorating inspiration. Which island best suits your style?

I will start with my own person kitchen island. I sure will miss this island when my home sells. I love the pie shape and that it looks out beyond the family room. Just perfect for entertaining. I can stand and cook while interacting with my family and friends. The Edison Vintage Lights above set a warm tone for a food display. Its oversized counter can fit massive amounts of food!

Here is an oversized island in a home for sale in Calvert County that I fell in love with while showing a few weeks ago. My favorite part-the dark wood butcher block countertop. A must-have in my next home.

This seems to be the new “fad”…open shelving and I am loving it (a place to put my cookbooks.)

And, who doesn’t love the rolling typical sold butcher block island? How cool is this one that we used in our “Farm House Fixer Upper” (best for smaller kitchen with not much island room?) Found on wayfair.com for $1,011 (Yep, affordable, too!)

Another new craze is a bold make-a-statement island with a different color than the cabinets (very common with new home builders in our area, as well.) I am loving this country deep red color!

Or, to tone it down a bit, here is one we put in our Chesapeake Beach fixer upper. A subtle gray perfectly complimenting the vintage white cabinets.

How about this RAW wood counter top island? This live-edge island countertop is a real showstopper in this rustic kitchen in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jess your doing a great job! My favorite is the country red along with that copper stove hood and love the hanging copper lights..would love to have all that…and the picture of one you showed with the large dark butcher block top I noticed the tile behind the stove looks the same as the one we just did…I have pretty reddish cherry cabinets and it had just enough copper in it to complement them…it also comes in a little darker color with alot more copper also really pretty but I thought it would be to dark for my kitchen. Out of curiosity where was this house? I also really like the way you did the Chesapeake beach house that was actually a house I picked out a year ago when hubby was a little agreeable to flipping…but he was to worried about it all…don’t think I could have done as good though. So how are you doing your new house? I positively love all this stuff so hope you don’t mind my many questions.

Thank you so much, Sharon! We love what we do. Makes a difference when you have a passion for your work, people, design, life… A family home is so, so important. I love that you like copper as much as I do! I don’t know what it is about it. In my new home that we are building, I want it EVERYWHERE (you should see the copper range hood I found!) Unfortunately, it’s so expensive so I will only be able to have a light or two in copper. I love copper sinks, as well. Its so cool. I can’t wait til you all do your first fixer upper. Please call me when you are ready!
